Welcome to the new Sendcloud logo: here’s the story

That’s it! We’re finally launching our new Sendcloud logo, and that’s not all! Over the past few weeks, we’ve also been working on a complete rebrand. It’s not a decision we took lightly. So we wanted to give you an exclusive look in this article and explain everything about the redesign of our logo and our visual identity. This isn’t our first attempt, either. Go behind the scenes of this change!

Sendcloud launch: October 12, 2012

Let’s go back to Sendcloud’s origins, the “good old days.” Rob, Bas and Sabi ran their own online store selling smartphone accessories alongside their studies. Everything was going well, except for delivering the products.

Not even Google had a solution for the frustration caused by time-consuming, repetitive shipping processes. So we plucked up our courage and knocked on the doors of PostNL and DHL. That’s how we started developing software with a friend.

The first version of Sendcloud connected orders placed on Magento and WooCommerce to the PostNL and DHL shipping systems.

One of the first employees, who came to help out the marketing department, was none other than Tom, Rob’s younger brother. Tom had always loved (web) design and started working on a draft of our very first logo. Here’s what it looked like:

This first logo was playful and used icons to explain Sendcloud’s purpose: a single cloud platform to manage shipping and deliveries for online stores.

Brand identity 2.0 in 2016

Four years later, this first logo went through some small changes. We felt it had become somewhat outdated and didn’t represent Sendcloud’s mission well enough. The platform had grown and now included multiple carriers, new shipping options (such as pickup points) and, above all, personalized tracking emails. On top of that, the icons on the old logo dated back to a time when every truck had rather square lines!

It was time for a change, but it couldn’t be too radical. We rounded the shape of the logo and modernized the icons. Most importantly, we replaced the “letter” with a box symbol, which better represented our customers’ shipments.

In 2016, Sendcloud was already present in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and France soon followed. The result? As the team grew, new employees quietly adapted our visual identity here and there. You really couldn’t say there was a clear structure or precise guidelines for it at the time.

Brand identity 3.0 in 2017

A year after introducing the box into our visual identity, we decided it was time for another change. In the meantime, we had already developed a whole series of new features, and Sendcloud had become much more than a shipping solution for new entrepreneurs.

With our Pack & Go solution, we had also managed to make order picking and shipping smarter and more efficient. Remember, our mission is to help every online retailer optimize their shipping process from the first to the last mile.

So the marketing team decided to move to a new visual identity and started building a third version of the website. The new visual identity used a blue background showing real photos of the shipping process. The goal was also to apply this new style to all marketing materials.

Sendcloud gets a makeover in 2019

At the end of 2018, it was time to look back on a year full of changes. Chief among them was our new parcel tracking solution, Track & Trace. Thanks to the team members responsible for our product’s UX and UI, we also managed to give this feature a new style. Because looks matter too!

This release unofficially marked the launch of our new visual identity for Sendcloud. Our tracking feature had become so “sexy” that everything else looked out of place next to it. We quickly concluded that the website needed another overhaul, so we could better show what the Sendcloud solution had become, in a style consistent with our latest developments.

The new website launched in May 2019:

We realized that the logo from 2016 no longer fit our current visual identity and our values. Funnily enough, it was a job candidate who opened our eyes to the fact that our logo wasn’t right. He explained that the small icons weren’t recognizable from a distance, and we have to admit he was right.

So, over the past few weeks, we’ve been working with the creative team at Faker Agency to create a new logo and a new visual identity.

SendCloud becomes Sendcloud

The new logo is accessible, legible and represents what we do. Thanks to the letter spacing and rounded shapes, it’s easy to recognize.

We also noticed that our company name often appeared as “Sendcloud,” while officially it was “SendCloud.” With that in mind, we decided in the new visual identity to change the capital “C” to lowercase. A simple solution! And if there’s one thing we strive for, it’s simplicity.

You’ll have noticed that our software also sports this new style. We’re continuing to make changes to our solution’s interface to improve its usability. And we have to say, we’re pretty happy with the result! Are you?

Conclusion

That’s it, now you know the whole story of Sendcloud, its logo and its visual evolution. Change can sometimes cause some frustration, but we promise we’ve done our best to make things much simpler and more enjoyable for you. And don’t worry: apart from that, Sendcloud hasn’t changed!

And don’t panic if you still come across our old logo here and there. We’ll gradually remove it so there’s no confusion. On behalf of the whole Sendcloud team, we sincerely hope you like this new style. Here’s to new adventures together!
