How Stichting Gaandeweg Ships Welcome Packages with Sendcloud
Gaandeweg is a foundation that offers families with a young cancer patient a vacation in the Netherlands, so they can relax together. From cycling to board games: enjoying full attention for one another, so the illness fades into the background for a while. This provides a natural way to gain energy between check-ups and treatments.
Gaandeweg was founded in 1988 from a private initiative and later continued as a foundation. Its goal is to let families with a child who has cancer spend a week's vacation in a holiday home in the Netherlands during treatment. The foundation now owns 3 holiday homes in Braamt, Otterlo and Susteren, and in summer also uses 3 holiday homes in Renesse.
CHALLENGE
In the early years, Gaandeweg received financial support from KWF, receiving 40,000 euros annually. Between 2013 and 2015, this funding was phased out to 0, leaving the foundation fully dependent on gifts and donations to send around 180 families on vacation each year.
SOLUTION
The board developed a more active fundraising and brand-awareness policy to reach its 80,000 euro budget. Since this summer, Gaandeweg has been sending every family a welcome package to boost the holiday feeling, made possible in part by sponsors. Sendcloud supports the foundation by covering the shipping costs of these packages: using their online account, Gaandeweg creates labels, prints them in the office, and sticks them on the boxes, which are picked up daily.
